The Dawn Shall Rise
This story is based off a radio drama I made during my time in college, telling the fictional story of the third world war. The rapid occupation of Europe by the Soviet Union, nations including France, Germany, Spain and the British Isles. In the aftermath groups of resistance fighters attempted to retake their homes.
I have decided to modernise the story so that it more closely fits the more current standing of the world and the revising of the Political Far Right in the world.

Chapter 2: Resistance
Even though the war was long the fight was not over for many.
As the Allies in the west retreated to the sanctuary of the United States, the remains of the militaries from Europe, consisting of the Royal Marines, Royal Navy, French Army and Navy, Germany Bundeswehr as well as the remains of Spanish, Portuguese, Irish, Dutch, Belgian and Italian remnants.
In Britain the resistance was extremely limited, despite numerous attacks by factions in Northern Ireland as well as murders, assassinations and acts of sabotage in the major cities. There was no real resistance against the Ultra Nationalists, this has been linked to the fact that no one was willing to properly organise them, the American CIA was unwilling to provide support to the groups due to dangers closer to home.
Overall when it came to the United Kingdom, acts of resistance were extremely small, only small scale acts. Some even stated that it was because the UK had no experience to call on. In fact recent discoveries have pointed out that the only places to offer significant resistance against the occupation came from guerrilla factions in the highlands of Scotland, and the many terror groups of the Nationalists and Unionists from Northern Ireland.
However all that would come to change.....
Chapter 3: The S.R.C
The first true form of resistance came in the form of a major resistance attack on one of the biggest gas facilities in England, the small military garrison was surprised to see the organisation of the attackers as well as their weapons and tactics. These were not the ragtag militia they had spent almost two years fighting.
These men and women were well trained people who were clearly well prepared for this form of attack, when the FSB got investigated, their reports also stated that the insurgents had used retrofited helicopters to attack the facility. It was then that they realised that this insurgency was something they had never seen before, in the aftermath of the attack and destruction of most the gas reserves in the facility, the R..C.B (Russo Command Britain) gave strict orders to all of their forces across the United Kingdom, ordering them to maintain a constant state of awareness when not in a properly secured base or outpost.
Soon however the forces in northern England and Scotland came under heavy, continuous attacks, raids, sabotage and assassinations only an almost daily basis. Soon they had a name to add to the group that was causing them so much trouble.
The Group began calling themselves the STRATEGIC RESISTANCE COALITION or S.R.C for short. This was an organisation that the fledgling resistance groups in Britain needed beyond anything else. The group was founded by Connor Morris whose aim was to bring together the different resistance groups from around the country into a single force with the aim of causing so much damage to the occupation and perhaps even bring forth a nation wide uprising against the Ultranationalists.
The S.R.C soon became the number one focus of all the military forces in the British isles, as the S.R.C or more specifically Connor launched a system of vocal distruption. Using a pirated radio system and a collection of relays, he was able to send messages across the radio and Television sets across the country. In many of his messages he claimed that this broadcast and its messages were in fact the true voice of Britain, and thus claimed the broadcasts to be the BBC, in an attempt to counter the false propaganda of the occupation.
Elsewhere across the Atlantic, the allies were reforming for the counter offensive, to help in this the French military put forward the idea of combining the different militaries of, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Greece and Portugal into a single army under a single command system, similar to that of the European Union, however what they proposed was that the different nations become not many but a single force for a single aim to liberate Europe, although the British exiled government refused to join the European Federation, they did agree to back them in any attempt to liberate Europe. Placed in overall charge of the Euro military was Colonel Bankole formerly of the French army. His first port of call was to properly organise the combined forces so that they could work together with several different languages. Which despite the difficulty was successful after many months of hard toil, his second request was made to the CIA, as well as the remnants of British and French Secret service. What he requested was to provide greater aid and intelligence to the resistance groups working in occupied Europe and Africa.
He thought that by bringing in these groups he hoped that the flow of information could be of great help in regaining the momentum the allies needed in the battle to push back the Ultra Nationalists. The first group he wanted to make contact with was one which according to rumour had managed to destroy an entire Gas processing facility in Northern England.
Although many expected him to seek those in his native France, he explained through the use of history, stating "In WW2 the allies used Britain as a staging ground for their invasion of Europe... we free Britain we can then use it to cross the channel and liberate Europa".
Chapter 4: The War Continues
Elsewhere in other parts of the world, more and more nations were brought into the war, whether through being forced into it like Norway. Or in the case of most, through the covert actions of both sides, such as in Africa where both sides supported groups and factions fighting for control of the nations there. Such as in Egypt where the Allies supported the Loyal Government forces whilst the Ultra Nationalists supported the more pro russian group.
Chapter 5: A Secret Order
Back in Europe the S.R.C had been growing strength to strength, by bringing together more and more resistance groups across the country. The greatest they were able to bring into the fold was the Irish Republican Army and the Ulster Volunteers, Connor was able to bring them into a meeting and eventually managed to convince them to agree to a truce where instead of working separately they would work cooperatively under the umbrella of the S.R.C.
Another victory for the S.R.C was being able to make contact with other resistance organisations and groups in the other parts of Europe. Through the IRA they managed to make contact with the Irish resistance in the former Republic of Ireland, as well as through couriers and short wave radios to a collective resistance in France known as the Maquis who like the S.R.C had managed to bring the different groups under their umbrella. But even better was that the Maquis had made contact with resistance groups in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Spain and even sporadic contact with Italy and Poland.
This growing resistance across Europe had not been missed by the Russian military forces, however despite the growing numbers and organisation of all the different resistance factions, the one that continued to fight the hardest was the S.R.C, many link this to the fact that the S.R.C and most notably Connor having contact with the Europa forces preparing in America.
In response to this the Russian government decided to send their most prestigious, brutal and effective military force to the British Isles to bring an end to the S.R.C. There first aim was to aim for its head, in their minds Connor Morris was the head of the S.R.C they failed to understand that the group was a collection of factions all of which could work independently if necessary. Yet one thing that no one really knew was that Connor had information, information that could all but destroy the Resistance if the Russian forces got hold of it.
The first act made by the Spetznaz forces sent to hunt him, in a single move they had managed to cut Connor off and caught him and those protecting him in a fire fight. During the firefight, Connor was captured and the fighters with him were all killed.
It was at this point the leaders of the British resistance factions now commanders in the S.R.C learned of a top secret order that Connor had in place should he ever be captured. This order was rather simple, should Connor be captured by the Russians and it was either impossible or too dangerous to rescue him, then his orders to the S.R.C was a kill order he had placed on himself. The reason being the information he had, because Connor was somewhat mistrustful and didn't like giving all the details to missions, Connor kept all the information he had in his head.
This meant that inside his head was the locations of all the S.R.C bases, all the safe houses where the resistance groups could be found, the radio frequencies to their radios. Even information of other nations, he knew the names of the leaders of the Maquis and where they could be found, he even knew the location of the Europa fleet hidden away somewhere in the Atlantic.

Despite the order, the S.R.C commanders refused to acknowledge it, flat out refusing to kill someone that they had come to call a friend. Instead they launched a surprise attack on a series of facilities across the country to distract the Russian forces from what they really had planned. They hoped that the chaos they were creating would force the Russian forces to move Connor to a more secure Facility in the south.
Although it took alot to force this action, it eventually did come to truth. Fearing the attacks were the start of a major offensive, Spetznaz command argued the order but eventually were given a direct order to move Connor Morris to a better defended location in the south of the country. Whilst on route however the convoy was ambushed by a larger number of resistance fighters than they had even faced before, these numbers gave the resistance the advantage allowing them to overwhelm and completely annihilate the Russian forces protecting the Convoy.
People were dragged onto the streets and searched, whilst homes were ransacked, if anything even remotely related to the resistance the individuals living there were executed on the spot. These actions were pushing the S.R.C to breaking point.
In desperation Connor made contact with the Europa forces who were now prepared for an invasion but were waiting on the Americans and Canadians who were still fighting in Alaska. Connor warned the allies in the west that unless the allies come soon then the resistance in the United Kingdom would be all but destroyed with a significant loss of life.
Colonel Bankole finally had enough, he went straight to the allied commanders and demanded that the allies go on the offensive. Yet once again the allies were concerned they feared that if they did launch an offensive into Europe then the frontline in Alaska would be at risk. Colonel Bankole now frustrated at the allied commanders went beyond them and went to the politicians he demanded the right to lead the Europa forces in liberating their homelands from the Russians, claiming it would be both a strategic victory but also a moral one. Showing the allies were not just sitting back and that they were willing to fight to free their homes.
Many of the exiled European politicians most notably the British Prime Minister and Queen Elizabeth gave their consent, requesting that the Combined armies and navies of the European nations take the first step to retake the continent.
On the 23rd of March 2030, the Europa fleet went against the orders of the supreme allied commander and set off from the different harbours to meet up in the open sea so they could journey on too Britain together.
Chapter 6: An Uprising
After almost 4 years the resistance in Europe was on the brink, yet was still strong enough to launch something that would forever change everything.
After the S.R.C learned that the allied forces were coming to attempt an invasion, the commanders all knew that the allies would need something to help them, otherwise the Russian forces would be able to counter the invasion and strangle it.
In this decision the S.R.C finally made the choice to call on the people of the British Isles to rise up in rebellion.
The call was very short, but after everything the resistance had done, Connor was able to convince them by telling the truth and for the first time in his life revealing the whole truth. Where he told them that the allies were coming to take the fight to the Russians, this revelation spurred people to sign up to the resistance, and for the first time in years, the British Isles had large gun battles in major cities. For the most part the uprising held strongest in the north where the countless years of resistance had severely weakened the local garrisons, despite this the Russians were quick to respond, redeploying forces from other parts of the country. But this merely helped the rebellion, because as Russian forces were moved too and from different locations, it meant that while some areas had a strong presence, other places were stretched thinner, which allowed the rebels to push harder and harder.
Soon word was received from the allies, who now finally came to a decision, The European forces alongside the Americans were coming in full force. With a fleet consisting of thousands of ships, making it the largest armada that has ever been gathered.
All the while however the resistance pushed harder and harder on the beleaguered Russian garrison, with their forces in the north stretched thin. The Russian Commander decided to redeploy, he moved his forces to a defensive line that ran the length of the country with the centre in Derby. Now with the entire North of the country now in the hands of the rebels, the Russians began to prepare for a very brutal act of aggression, they planned to bomb the rebellion into submission, where using bombers both large and small they planned to pound every city under their control.
Chapter 7: Invasion
Finally after five years the allied forces once more set foot on European soil, they planned a three pronged offensive. Where the Irish, Dutch and Belgian force land in Dublin, preventing the Russians from using the troops stationed their to reinforce the mainland. Whilst another force consisting of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese force supported by US marines land in the Canary Isles before moving on to Portugal, yet the main body of the attack was focused through Britain, where British, French, German and American forces landed in Gloucestershire, with the aim of then pushing east to cut the Russian forces off in Derby from the Channel ports. With most of the Local Russian forces focused on holding the rebellion in the north, then the resistance in Gloucester was extremely limited, and what little the local forces could do. The Euro force were quick to gain control of the city and then began to push into the country.
Elsewhere further to the north The rebellion began once more to push and push hard, now backed by the allies with limited air support, and most of all weapons and vehicles. With these boons the resistance began to push even harder on the already stretched Russian forces. This support allowed them break through the Russian lines around the city of Derby, which in turn opened up the road to London. With the army in Britain and Ireland Breaking and more forces pushing on Portugal, the Russian Military command finally made a decision to save their assets and gave the order pull their army from Britain.
As they began their step by step retreat, the rebels to the north pushed harder and harder to retake London. Finally on the 13th of July they reached the outskirts and began the offensive to take the bridges across the Thames, at the same time the Allied forces finally gained full control of the skies above Britain, with this air supeirority the Russians were now even further stretched, as time and time again their supply aircraft and evacuations were shot down by Allied fighters. They had no choice but to focus on holding the Channel ports which by now were the safest route to get their forces out.
But even they were becoming dangerous as the allied force began to liberate the cities of Plymouth Exeter and Exmouth. Now limited even further the Russians gambled on one last attempt, they brought their Baltic fleet round to the Channel, hoping their artillery would be able to cover the retreat.
Yet before this even happened, the rebel forces had finally broke through in London, they drove their offensive so hard that they were able to catch the commander of the entire Russian army in Britain, after a brief struggle, the commander gave the order for all the troops in Britain to surrender. However only those in London followed the order, those in other parts of the country kept fighting until the allies captured Plymouth and the Rebels retook Portsmouth and Dover.Epilogue:
In the aftermath of the Channel ports falling, the remaining forces in Britain finally surrendered after it became clear they could neither escape or be resupplied.
With Britain now completely free, the many members of the resistance returned to their normal lives whilst a good number joined the reborn British army and continued the fight. Two months Later Allied forces landed in both France and Portugal, As well as this American and Canadian forces finally drove the Russian forces from Alaska and crossed over the Bering straits into Russia itself.
In Europe the allies pushed hard with every victory, soon uprising like those in Britain occurred in multiple nations, aided by the numerous rebellions the allies soon liberated Paris and pushed into Germany. Now with numerous defeats, the Russian Ultra-Nationalist party began to lose significant popularity at home. And as the allies in both the east and west pushed that support continued to drop. Finally after 7 years of war, the allies finally found themselves on the Russian doorstep, at the very road to Moscow itself. Some expected the battle to take Moscow and put an end to the Ultra Nationalists however the push was less violent than they had expected, despite resistance by the army. Most of the people in Moscow and much of Russia actually saw the invading allies as more of help than hindrance.
It appeared that the people of Russia wanted an end to the war that was sending their family members home in body bags.
Finally on the 23rd of December the Ultra Nationalist party surrendered to the allies.
Connor Morris the founder and leader of the S.R.C was killed fighting alongside the German resistance in Berlin. He was posthumously rewarded the Victoria Cross in honour of his work to free the British Isles.
